This website contains resources to support the following State accredited and nationally recognised courses which have been specifically designed for people with an intellectual disability:

  • 22294VIC Course in Initial Adult Literacy and Numeracy

  • 22293VIC Certificate I in Initial Adult Literacy and Numeracy

MEM has also developed a comprehensive non-accredited initial literacy training program.

In June 2014 Ron McGlynn (MEM) donated the Certificates in Initial Adult Literacy and Numeracy (CIALN) State accredited courses to the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) which requested to take over ownership of these courses in the public interest.

The CIALN courses were privately developed by MEM and have been successfully delivered around Australia since 1996.

DET has now rewritten these courses which have been accredited from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2020. To assist RTOs wishing to add the new CIALN courses to their Scope, to support delivery and to remove barriers to accessing these courses for people with an intellectual disability, MEM has developed an extensive range of related resources.

Funding update – September 2015
The CIALN will now be funded at the same level as the Cert I in Transition Ed. This will make the CIALN courses far more accessible for people with an intellectual disability.

Karingal referred to in video is a large Geelong community based disability organisation, not the suburb of Melbourne

In 2011, the Karingal EdLinks Program celebrated it’s 25th anniversary. The video below takes your through the EdLinks journey and is a great example of inclusive education in action for people with an intellectual disability. It contains and wide range of related best practice teaching and learning approaches and is an excellent “train the trainer” inclusive education teaching resource.  Please click on link below to view video
